Yeah, that's reasonable. I don't think anyone will have a problem with your decision unless they're an asshole. I'm sure we can find plenty of other ways to say fuck Israel.

if people want an emoji for this uhhh..
why not literally the word israel ??

like :bruh: but israel, and with little a flames?

      edit: or zionism or something.

why would this need to include a star of david or an implied one at all?

i mean, yes to the first half, no to the second.

thats literally just saying any criticism of israel is a proxy for antisemitism, which is not the case.

burning an actual star of david? not okay.

indicating that israeli zionism should burn? super good and cool.

the issue is that this specific emoji thing has an intersection of the two, because of the israeli flags design

I'm the one that brought this up and raised the discussion over it, I think? Anyway I'm on board with you, it's not a good look and more importantly it makes you uncomfortable as a Jewish person.

      Yeah like this out :cool-bean:

“israel is a settler-colonial apartheid state. Palestinian liberation is cool and good.”

Considering all the historical antisemitism that has gone for literally thousands of years we definitely don't need a burning Israeli flag lol

I realized that we didn’t have one today on my post about Palestine and honestly it’s for the better. We all agree here: Fuck the apartheid state of Israel.

We don’t need to give reactionaries ammo to use in a hateful way

Why dont we add a burning Sabra logo, they've donated food to IDF units and brigades.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabra_(company)#Boycott_campaigns

I'll also add ,the IDF flag also has a Star of David, but their crest does not please disregard, i am dumb

SodaStream is a bad example, afaik. My understanding is that the owner tried to get visas for all the Arab employees and publicly called Israel an "apartheid state" when the visas were denied.

As a business owner, there are still all the normal criticisms about theft of labor value, etc.

But my understanding is that SodaStream is just "capitalist business" bad and not "Nestlé bad", so to speak.

Edit: actually, it looks like SodaStream is owned by Pepsi now. So idek.

But I do think that previously SodaStream became an "easy" target based on misinformation and everyone sort of just jumped on it.

of course. and I also could be misinformed. I don't want to discount that possibility!

I think this article seems to capture the facts around it either way? https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2016/03/27/471885452/when-500-palestinians-lose-their-jobs-at-sodastream-whos-to-blame

I think the question is whether SodaStream is evidence of apartheid vs a perpetrator of apartheid, if that makes sense?

Not that it matters THAT much anyway.

this is a cool and good move. I can't fucking stand zionists but that emote isn't the answer, not even close. While I'm not necessarily surprised this was suggested (innocently or not) and I don't know how many people were genuinely suggesting we add it, we can apply better energy elsewhere. You open up a huge can of worms and as WhyEssEff essentially said, make our Jewish hexbear fam uncomfortable. Not okay.

With the way people want to slap antisemitism on any sort of leftist, this is definitely a good move.

Yea I don't get why people are so up in arms about this shit. It's just like the banning @Hitler thing. At worst we're missing out on some people slapping an emoji on the end of their justifiably angry post about Israel. Nothing in the substance of your anger about the subject has to change. Giving a shit about this is as debatebro as it gets where you give more of a shit about the hypothetical "principle" of the matter rather than recognizing the reality that nothing is lost for a lot gained in not alienating our Jewish comrades

there is nothing so exhausting as finding out the person you're arguing with is offended over the principle of the thing

with the exception of them having just woken you up at 1 in the morning to have this argument
