Just FYI Grover Furr is widely regarded as a hack, even by serious Marxists. He's not a historian (he is in fact a medieval English literature professor!), and while very good at finding some cool documents, he lacks the contextualization of these documents and often misconstrues them to mean something they absolutely do not. It's one thing to not view Stalin as some "evil totalitarian dictator responsible for 1312 million deaths," but quite another to claim (as he does) that every single one of the defendants in the Moscow Trials was guilty, that the USSR never "invaded" Poland in 1939, etc. I'm not familiar with the title in this image, but his most famous, Khrushchev Lied, is undoubtedly an impressive collection of unearthed documents that adds a lot to our historical understanding, but (as this review explains) is also rife with counterfactuals and misinterpreting those documents. Not saying the book in question here is total nonsense either, but just be on your toes about Furr!
I'm not 100% bought into Furr at all, I just thought the title was so ballsy I couldn't afford to not read it.
Absolutely the way to do it lol. I love having a super aggressive "Khrushchev Lied" on my shelf, especially since in broad strokes it's right. I'll give him one thing, he's unapologetic and in your face and that's pretty cool tbh. Let me know how the book is!
