But the Biden administration is urging the justices not to step in at this juncture, noting that in March of 2020 the National Commission on Military National and Public Service, created by Congress, released a report recommending that Congress eliminate male-only registration and expand draft eligibility to all individuals “of the applicable age.”

“Congress’s attention to the question may soon eliminate any need for the Court to grapple with that constitutional question,” Prelogar said.

Why. What is the purpose of amending the draft? Is Biden planning on using it? It would fit with the democratic strategy of doing the most they can to be politically unpopular.

this is an unpopular opinion but I agree, ever since we started outsourcing wetwork to PMCs it's just been the same five people doing hundreds of war crimes over and over again

a military accountable to the people by way of mass participation is one that is going to be more hesitant to pull that shit. talk to any military NCO and you'll realize how much more stringent the standards are for boots compared to PMC chuds who literally kill for money for decades (not close to stringent enough for grunts but still more than private)

I'm truly concerned that the PMC takeover is going to cause neonazis to be much more organized and have a lot more resources than they would otherwise stateside. most of the active mercs at Blkwater/TripleCanopy have a lot of white supremacists among their ranks and you'd be stupid to think they're not giving info to RW militias here at home. a draft isn't popular but I don't know how else to kick these people out and have a military that's responsive to the needs of the state rather than responsive to defense contractors and the like

edit: also for anyone confused PMC here means private military contractor not professional managerial class. although members of the second group are usually the ones who end up in the first and vice versa so
