Anyone here boulder? So far Ive only managed to do up to a V5, but its a really good workout, especially if you want giant forearms. Anyone else climbing?
I love top rope, but never been big into bouldering. Sometimes I daydream about this 5.10b route I've been trying to climb for over a month that is just weird enough to cause me problems. That's around the level I top out at right now, but hopeful I'll get to 5.11s sometime soon (I've done a few but not consistently).
Used to, but once the whole pandemic started coming around, I didn't want to be around heavy breathing or touching too many surfaces. Might be about time to get back to it though, I've been back in the gym for a few weeks now
Used to do climbing, best I was at bouldering was a 7c/V9. On lead the highest grade routes I would send were around 6c+/5.11c. Enjoy it and feel free to ask me anything about it. It's an amazing sport, very fun.
Didn't quit, I have a degenerative spinal disease. Can't climb anymore at the moment. Maybe one day again, but very unlikely
Yeah hopefully! First I need to walk without a cane/assistance, that's my main goal at the moment. But I'm going to keep trying. Climbing is the most fun I've ever had and nothing else I've done gives me the same thrill. At the same time I'll be perfectly fine and content if I can't climb again, I have come to accept that over the past few years.
Yea, only once a week usually, been around v3/4 for a while but I'm not that bothered about gitting gud
By far my favorite sport/physical activity. The gym's near me are opening up again so I'm just waiting for my climbing partner to finish vaccinating so we can get back into it. I generally prefer top rope but I do have a love of bouldering. I'm hoping to get certified for lead this year although after not doing it for all this time I've got a lot of technique and forearm strength to get back.
Lead is amazing. Leading a 30m/100ft tall bare clifface is one of my favourite memories. Enjoy it dude.
There are supposed to be some really epic climbing spots about an hour from me but I don't know anyone else who climes so I haven't been yet. Once this covid bullshit dies down a little more I'm going to see if I can find a club or something to join.
Hell yeah! My parents are both climbers so I've been at it since I was a little kid. Sadly I'm sidelined right now because I blew my A2 a few months back. Probably will be much weaker when I get back to it but my max was V12/13a.
Not a single bouldering gym closer than 100 miles :(
I'd really love to get into it.
Apparently it is open now. But then the issue is that I'm at work too late except for two days a week.
Ah, well if youre in brooklyn Id climb with you, my gym buddy got deported.
So sad about my local gym. They remodeled, and now all of the walls are mostly flat and have this gritty sandpapery stuff plastered to them. So now, not only are there no simulacra of natural features, but if you have a hard time on a move, your feet just stick to the wall and you can bypass the part of the problem you're stuck on. I went like 3 times since they remodeled and it just doesn't feel like the challenge I was looking for:(
Thanks! Yeah I tore up my hands yesterday so I should probably take a few days off.
Yeah for the first few weeks the skin on your hands will feel really raw while toughens up. But as you climb your body will adapt, and your skin on your hands will get tougher. Eventually you won't really notice it
