shit like this is why psychology is a complete fucking joke, bunch of right wing white cishets write down complete bullshit and then decades later fellow white cishets still tout it as undeniable scientific truth

God damn the amount of fucking misery I was in for years because I had these "fetishes" I just couldn't explain or reason with and just wanted to be free of. The answer to my inner turmoil was in front of me but his bullshit kept me in denial and in the closet. There's still plenty of people out there suffering who think they're broken and unlovable and if they're like me, it's because of this fuck

that won't even work all the time because there are amab people with xx chromosomes and sex chromosomes can be pretty funky

I'm reading the article and it's honestly so shitty, not only because of the obvious transphobia, but its ridiculously poor logic that I'm tempted to long-angry-dunk it.

He needs to shut the hell up. I hate him even more for using the word "we're". As if he has a right to speak for anyone aside from himself.

i hate psychology as a profession, its entirely useless imo

psychiatry has its uses because its fucking clinical though and has medications in play. not just people doing stats terribly

I think this is a bad take. (sorry comrade--you're still great!! <3).

I think there are unfortunately a lot of bad psychiatrists and psychologists out there. But that doesn't mean psychology is inherently bad.

"The study of thought and cognition" is extremely valuable. We wouldn't say astronomy was a bad field just because prominent astronomers thought the Sun orbited the Earth. It just means the astronomers who thought that were bad astronomers.

if you dont have friends you can be open with a therapist is useful

i have never met a good psychologist or therapist, i think theyre all scum. like i dont see how therapists are better than free group therapy or a good friend. ive never seen any studies that say therapy is better than just having good friends or group therapy. psych studies are so fucking biased too, psych studies are 5x more likely to 'prove' their hypothesis, just confirming what they believe all the time which is bullshit

and astronomy wasnt costing anyone lives when it was first invented. bunk psychology costs lives every day

It just means the astronomers who thought that were bad astronomers.

This isn't really true either. Back in the day you couldn't just go into space and from our perspective on the Earth it does look like everything is rotating around us. The Earth centric model had some pretty elegant models and it was really only proven wrong once better observations were made and new theories fit better with the observations.

I don't see how Quillete is representative of psychology at all. Unless I'm unaware I thought Blanchard was mostly unrespected?

I don't know how he's seen in academia now, but Blanchard did have a lot of institutional backing and status at least up to a decade ago and he still has followers churning out nonsense attempting to support his theories.

This is a pretty big problem in general in academia. People who are in the field but don't know any better will tend to rely on old sources with very bad understanding of trans people because that's all they have to work off of. (and this leads to really bad gatekeeping when it comes to medical treatments for trans people) I do think it's getting better though since trans people are sharing more of their own experiences and dispelling a lot of the old myths people have.

yes there zero examples of cis women and trans women who date each other because cis woman have magical detectors that can tell if someone was born amab and they instantly lose attraction when they found out.
