Of all the South American left movements, they’ve probably had it the hardest. The little bit of momentum they had in the 80s was fucked over by probable op (or at least tacit funding from the right around the world) Sendero luminoso. Every nominally left candidate since turned out to be an IMF bootlicking ghoul.
Critical support for thus, I don't have the same faith in Castillo and his party that I have for MAS in Bolivia who supported a different Peruvian left wing political party in the primary due to Peru libre's conservative social views.
What's funny here is the margin for Castillo is better than when a center right conservative ran against Keiko, shows probably the only instance where liberals chose to vote for the leftist over a fascist.
Veronika Mendozas party will caucus with him. Hopefully that will be a good influence
Peru Libre also has a pretty influential left wing that is socially progressive.
