The reason that Debian had their Firefox called "iceweasel" for a while is that the Mozilla Public License (MPL) says that if you modify the code, you have to change the logo and trademark names. Iceweasel was exactly the same as Firefox but it had some tweaks to make it run better on Debian.
I know, just can't remember when IW went back to FF. It seems like yesterday and forever ago! I could look it up but sometimes its nice to be blissfully unaware of the passage of time.
Been using FF since XP. Then it was iceweasel when I got into Linux. I can't remember when iceweasel became FF again. Seems so long ago.

Iceweasel days were a great time in my life!
It's still Iceweasel on GNU FSDG compliant distributions (notably GuixSD and Parabola). Not that it's an actual pressing concern nowadays.
