Yeah I'm wondering that as well. My guess is that they'll market it as an update to windows 10 but also as it's own thing moving forward. Kinda like windows 8.1 is seen as it's own thing for the most part even though it was part of the windows 8 family.
I honestly don't understand how they just took out the start menu and desktop and replaced it with a garbage fullscreen menu with no alternative and thought it would go well. Props for doing something new but they fucked up so bad by making it the only option. Windows 8.1 was super weird but I kinda liked it for that and they did have a start menu. Linux is still superior though :libretion:
Windows XP was the last "good" Windows. Linux is better in every conceivable way. And yes, the fact that it is harder to play g*mes is better because they are Bad and Cringe.
also valve is putting serious money into getting windows anticheat to work in proton so maybe newer games won't be so hard soon. They already have kernel call interception it's just a matter of optimizing now (which they need to do a lot of to get anything playable lol).
Don't forget they removed the start menu from Windows SERVER 2012 too, before they released Server 2012 R2 with the start menu, just like Windows 8.1.
It is still completely baffling to me, I know they would have focus tested it. Maybe it was an attempt to get rid of the old Windows MT control panel apps sooner, which it looks like Windows 11 is removing.
But didn't they say that Windows 10 was the last version of Windows and they'd just keep updating it? They lied?! :surprised-pika:

Windows 8.1 was the funniest shit ever. "Wait people like taskbars?! Fuck fuck fuck OK add it back and call it 8.1 or something idk"

Steam is (comparatively) good. If Windows was able to get a lock on a PC games store years ago, none of that would have been conceivable.
I use 8.1
There's an option for a start menu? I've just been using the fullscreen one all these years. I got used to it tbh.
Windows 10 though is just fucking awful
yeah I forgot how to enable it though, it's been a while lol.

This won't be a separate purchase so whether the update is Windows 10 or 11 is branding
