For having only spent a few hours on the background image, I think it turned out very well. It used to take me days to make those, and they weren't quite as good.
My goal was to have the demo released by the end of the year, and I am definitely on schedule for that.
Hell yeah this looks great. What kind of image is it? Can you do a gif or flip between multiple images that can give a feeling of movement in the water or the grass? It might be doing that already. Keep up the good work I love it!
Thanks! It's just a static png. While animation would be nice, doing so with pixel art graphics is very labor intensive, so I think there are other places where the effort would be better spent.
That makes sense. Animating the launch menu screen that people usually only see briefly does seem like it should have a low priority compared to other parts that they will see far more often. Excellent work so far!
Definitely hits the nostalgia vibes for me. I also like the color choices. Looks great.
Thanks! I drew inspiration from SNES RPGs, even if I didn't hit that level of graphical fidelity.
I honestly started to hear some Chrono Trigger music in my head looking at it.
Edit: this song, in particular: https://youtu.be/WDpPMu8EApg?si=x7q-xJdNq3lADjDs
Dude, you have no idea how much it means to hear that. I'd be hard-pressed to think of a response I'd rather get than "This reminds me of Chrono Trigger."
I remember when you first asked around for the title to go with your "guardians of the setting went bad" backstory for your game.
I'm sad that my title didn't make it but I'm happy for the winning proposal
I don't remember exactly but I think it was "Fall of the Guardians" or "Guardians' Fall" or something.
is that the guardian in the background betwixt the R and Y what's it doing
Not sure if you are looking for feedback still or not, but for some reason I read the road as a plant stalk sprouting from the hill with pods attached to it. I hope this is not an irritating comment, I love what you are doing!
What engine are you using? I was looking at godot and that made me want to start messing around and building something but I don't know anything about engines.
I'm using Godot. I've tried out a few different engines, and i found Godot to be the best for authentic-looking 2D retro style games.
