I've started running this year -- kind of running, anyway. I am 5' 7" and weigh 260 pounds, so the best I can manage for more than a few seconds is more like jogging than running. I've read a few "couch to 5k" guides, and they seemed to suggest starting with running for a minute at a time, walking for a bit, running for another minute, etc. Right now, I'm up to jogging for 8 non-consecutive minutes within a morning 25-minute walk/jog, three times a week.

I have a lot of friends and family who are into running, and I would really like to be able to join them. Also, I've always struggled jogging/running for long periods of time, even when I was a kid, so if I could run, say, a 5K, that would be a big accomplishment for me.
