I think we need a good leftist answer to almonds, in general to agriculture specialization. Central CA is a region where almonds can be grown with lower pesticide use because of the lower humidity during the growing season. You could grow almonds in similar regions as peaches, based on "degree days" but the fungicide cost would be much higher for the same reason that irrigation would be less intensive: the water comes from the sky.
