According to new data analyzed by ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine, warming temperatures, rising seas and changing rainfall will profoundly reshape the way people have lived in North America for centuries.
I know this isn’t how it works but; my current place of residence is a near consistent 0. But, I was born and raised in the same vicinity through no deep decision of mine, just kinda lucked out. I’m curious as to what all the indirect consequences will bring for someone in my location/latitude. Like, I’ll never have to move. There is a near endless water supply with ample (more importantly viable) farmland. So it’s like the only material effect I foresee in my case is everything will just be more expensive, but absolutely less expensive than moving/trying to find a job with livable wages.
(I also live in a place that has been historically anti-slavery. Like… they frame some old time stories as nicely as possible, “Mr. Slavery Q. Person-owner, just happened to leave town in the middle of the night. Leaving all of his possessions behind, with no trace of evidence. The “slaves” (sic) he was trying to apprehend are accounted for and doing well at the time of this writing, both gentlemen hope Mr. Q isn’t dead. [HUGELY IMPLIED 😉]
So I don’t foresee anything besides the normal bullshit, just amplified slightly. Minus the local culture not having deep race issues. So, same amount of horror, just with 85% less racism… I dunno. I don’t have a real point.
edit:
(This has been just a huge vent for me. I cried all day yesterday with the ‘sadness theme’ being the Climate Crisis. The Big Sad had nothing to do with what I wrote above necessarily. But just writing about anything Climate related is cathartic. So, uh, sorry for making you read this far, if you have. Doomer-ism is contagious and sneaky, be sure to give yourself some “grill-pill” every so often, even if you don’t feel like you need it.)
