It is hilarious to me. Especially when you compare the anthems, The Italian one is about dying in the Risorgimento. The English one is about what a cool cat the current monarch is. If the English had any sense they'd boo their own anthem.
When the Engl*sh hooligans booed the anthem in the semifinals I just took it as no more than another manifestation of the gammon instinct of being nasty to foreigners. Living under neoliberal austerity while also feeling entitled to the spoils of a long-gone empire dies that to people.
I was more appalled by them shining laser pointers at the eyes of Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel during their (suspiciously undeserved) penalty shoot, and the ridiculously mild slap on the wrist UEFA gave them for doing so.
if it makes you feel any better, some younger english people do boo our own anthem (or at least, we did at my school lmao), but yeah, nowhere near enough :england-cool:
That reminds me of when they mistakenly played the Soviet version before a Russian Rugby match... against Germany. They still sang it proudly
from the recommendations: what an absolute cuck country klanada is. there is no meaningful distinction between the two north american settlements
Imagine caring about people booing your anthem.
Most of the outrage here is FBPE people.
I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the country itself and everything to do with being a dick to the other team, so yeah, don't do that.
Southgate would do well to remember how many damages and deaths English hooligans caused throughout European competitions. One should never forget how Liverpool fans murdered 39 Juventus supporters in 1985 before the European Cup final.
This is true and the Liverpool supporters responsible were rightly prosecuted, but the reason for the high deathtoll was that a wall fell on the Juventus supporters, again because the Liverpool supporters were charging it.
