I wonder if there ever will be video games in the olympics. like League is MASSIVE, SC is basically the national sport of South Korea, major tournaments are on mainstream sports TV now. I suppose the thing is ofc those games are privately owned and not controlled by the IOC
Gran Turismo Sport (racing car simulation on PlayStation) had an Olympic event this year. Anyone that owned the game could attempt to qualify for it. It's finished already weeks ago and someone from Italy won
It's possible because the game is already FIA certified for various eSports competitions, and the FIA is the motorsport governing body (they're in charge of Formula 1 for example). So a little communication between the FIA and IOC was all that was needed, and the game didn't need to modified at all.
Just wait until starcraft, dota and CS are in the olympics and we've got 60 year old korea and swedish men talking about flick shots and zerg rushes
