Sixteen years after it was shot down by Yugoslav air forces during the NATO bombing, the wreckage of a US stealth plane is still proudly displayed at the Belgrade Museum of Aviation.
Weren't American stealth bombers a huge failure or was it just a specific one that's bad? I remember hearing there was one that cost tax payers huge amounts because it needed to be in a special air-conditioned hanger and couldn't go out in the rain?
They were good if you were facing an enemy without the specific types of radar that could actually detect you, but against peer adversaries they might only give you a few more seconds of leeway. In the case of this particular one, it was because the missile operator waited for the bomb bay doors to open before turning on his radar, allowing the severely outdated missile to actually lock on before american SEAD could target him.
Thanks to this China were able to jumpstart their stealth plane program and is now able to produce stealth jets on par with the West. :xi-clap:

Yeah its the B-2, the source of all those triangle Ufo sightings in the late 80s. The stealth coating washes away in rain lmao.
Oh my god lmao, Americans deserve a refund on that one.
Welp, at least it looks cool, that's the only compliment I'll give it.
The one in the article was an F-117, the Tesla Cybertruck of stealth fighter/bombers.
sigh false. https://www.nytimes.com/1997/09/13/us/b-2-bomber-gets-a-bath-to-prove-that-it-does-not-melt.html
