Yeah. At least with the quality of the writing, I get the sense that it was a very conscious choice, that he wanted this part of the story to be (in part) about

losing someone you love to trauma/degenerative mental illness
not for some hacky reason he didn't really put any thought into. But it's a fair criticism and reason to be put off, and it also doesn't just apply to Casca either.
i love the 1997 anime and im reading the manga for the first time and highly enjoying that too. depressing stuff a lot of the time yea, but goddamn i love it
Berserk is hugely popular, any idea why it's taken them 20 years to come out with a second anime, and that anime ended up so low budget?
Are we ever going to see the rest of the story in anime form?
The guys who did the castlevania show have openly said they want to do berserk, but nothing is confirmed yet.
