I used to work with a libertarian who insisted it was solely a question of population density as to why I could only get 2mbps DSL in my San Francisco apartment.

“America is just too sparse for infrastructure like you saw in Europe”

If capitalism is so good, why does the US have such shitty telecommunication and broadband infrastructure?

Capitalism is pretty good at producing commodities and concentration wealth and power with the bourgeoisie and terrible at distribution. On top of that, infrastructure is a natural monopoly where capitalists will suck up funds and build the least shit they can. When there are exceptions to this, it's due to central planning by the bourgeois government.

Scratch that. It's because you, personally, aren't a telecom worker digging fiber trenches. Get back to work lazy bones.

From my understanding one of the reasons is a lot of Americans live literally in the middle of nowhere.

If the US can afford the logistics for 800 overseas military bases, it can afford to have nation wide broadband.
