    I can't afford it, and also am contemplating whether having children who will almost surely experience a near apocalyptic shift in climate is moral.

      this is mostly it for me. If my retirement plan is dying in the climate wars aged 50, what does that mean for a kid born this year? die in the climate wars aged 20-25? the new generation understand summer as "forest fire season", it's the new normal and they don't know anything before. I can't imagine the despair as they grow older.
