I had those pockets in Brazil, I forget their name tho but they were delish so cheer up kitty, it's a good meal.
The name is pastel (singular) and pastéis (plural). Been a while since I've eaten one but it's delicious.
What is inside them? They look like they could be sweet or savory depending on the filling.
The most common fillings are ground beef, chicken and cheese, but i've seen ones filled with bananas, shrimp and some other stuff before.
I'm going to try and make some next week I think. They look pretty easy to make and fried food always tastes good.
They are made with a special dough made specifically for it, I don't know how it's called wherever you're from, but we call it pastel here in Brazil. You put the filling in, close it and then fry it. They are usually fried by dipping them in a big pot of hot oil, so many can be made at the same time.
And yes, they're the holy grail of Brazilian culinary.
Damn, sounds good. Reminds me of a "Pastie" but probably has actual spices and flavour.
Definitely Brazil. The fried dough is called Pastel (don't confuse it with Spanish for cake ) . and the coke is written in Portuguese.
Is this fried dough a sweet or savory dish? BTW I love brazilian memes
The dough itself is not either too savory nor sweet..it's plain ..but their filling is usually savory..the most common fillings are ground beef with cheese, just cheese or "pizza" that is cheese, a slice of tomato, some times ham, and oregano..But there are all kinds of fillings ..there is also banana with cinnamon and sugar, brigadeiro (typical Brazilian sweet), and cheese with guava jam.
Here in my country they don't sell Brigadeiro but I tried it when I went to a Brazilian friend's house, it's very tasty but very sweet
Based on the vibe of the rest of that picture, the drink should just be called "Cola"
