It gets a little weirder if you go West into Somerset: Westonzoyland, Curry Mallet, Mudford Sock, Nempnet Thrubwell, Velvet Bottom (in Cheddar), then just plain ridiculous down in Cornwall: Gweek, Lizard, Troon, Probus, Minions, Jolly's Bottom, Pennycomequick, Perranzabuloe, Brown Willy, Cocks...
If you ever need half an hour of mild amusement, just zoom into the Westcountry on a map tbh
Looking at the images, this sure is one strange place. Everything seems so off, with its old style, yet incredibly wide roads, as devoid of people as a cornfield, park with zero (0) trees, and of course parking plaza.
Thank you for showing me this ridiculous little town, I need to enlighten more people about this absolute gem. :stalin-approval:
Yeah, it's kinda makes me think of, like a ultra budget movie set. Or one of those towns in China that media went wild about being empty. (until they got filled up cause planning works lol :some-controversy: )
People like old buildings, so let's build new old buildings!
And we'll build them better. We'll make more room for cars and no room for poor people. We don't need room for public spaces like city halls, museums or schools in landmark buildings either, well just use the space on condos instead. And nobody will notice if we save on expensive ornaments. And that stuff where people personalise buildings and make them their own? Sometimes it's ugly so let's ban it altogether.
The catch 22, She found bicycle, and we lost McMansion hell.
Although there was an update on the blog Jul 31st and from what i've seen on twitter she's been traveling a ton doing bike race journalism.
:rat-salute: thank you for sharing this incredibly bizarre place with us
like a modern day neuschwanstein, an incredible insight into how some inbred royal with only the most tenuous grasp on reality sees the world
since i assume youre in the uk, i wonder if youve been to wray castle (its in the lakes district)? some batshit victorian married the daughter of a rum baron or something and used all her money to pretend to be aristocracy and built this ridiculous victorian idea of what a medieval castle looked like, complete with romantic fake-ruins
similar vibes and pretty funny, i might do a post about it some time if i can find my old photos
Yeesh, this town is uncanny and I'm pretty sure I'd get poisoned by the HOA immediately
Wow, the drab lifelessness of poorer rural UK towns meets the soulless, brainless design of American towns
How the hell did they end up with a square round about?
