I've been reading a lot of video game and movie news websites recently cause my work is slow as shit, and while they sometimes get good scoops these people are all awful writers. They all write in the snarkiest, most irritating way possible because anger generates clicks. Then eventually some brave hero will harass one of these purposefully irritating nerds and they'll cry about it and try to make us all feel bad for them.

if you ever have reason to actually submit to an interview by a journalist, record the conversation yourself in case they're a snake like Isobel Cockerell

In defense of the writers, most of them are paid shit and given templates to follow created by some editor with an actual salary attempting to capitalize on trends.

I've talked about it a few times on here, but I've done a lot of writing in my past, some for pretty large companies that do this shit. Like I had fucking SFgate try to get me to write a quirky article on "cheuginess" a few months ago kind of thing.

It's just another form of labor, 95% of them think the article is garbage too but that's what got them paid, y'know?

I mean, I get payed like $40 to write 1-2k word movie articles for Collider, and I hope that my writing isn't completely terrible. Idk, I don't really do it to try and prove I'm smarter or better than anyone. I pretty much just try to encourage people to check out stuff they haven't, or consider or view movies with a new mindset. And I certainly don't do it for the very small amount of money I make per-article, I just really love movies and writing. I actually have been doing this kinda stuff just for fun for a long time, and these articles I've written over the last couple months are the first I've ever been payed for it. I guess I just hope that I can make just one person consider watching the movie I'm writing about, or one person consider my interpretation of a movie. That's all I want. Sorry if I suck.

Here's my stuff I guess. If you don't like it I just ask that you please don't make fun of me.

The Kotaku review of MS Flight Simulator recently re-keyed me in on this fact.
