Pro segregation too. Too bad cause his songs rip. Although I will say Ringo by Lorne Green is about even with Big Iron for awesome cowboy ballads, and it's what the Canyonaro song was based off
John Prine is the only thing that every member of my family can agree on. It's usually a constant battle for control of the radio, but whenever John Prine comes on we get a moment of peace.
He did tons and tons of openly pro-Christian gospel music. It's forgotten today, but back in his prime people didn't think of him as a country singer, they thought of him as a fundie and a homophobe.
"Back in the late 1950’s, Johnny Cash left Sun Records for Columbia. The reason? Columbia offered him the freedom to record Christian-themed music. That was his primary motivation why he sought a music career in the first place."
I can’t believe I found out how great Johnny Cash was only 6 months ago. Marty Robbins is another one I enjoy a lot too.
Marty Robbins was a rabid anti-Communist.

In Spite of Ourselves is a song that always cheers me up.
Townes van zandt, too.
Pancho and Lefty is one of my favorite songs of all time
The Willie Nelson/Merle Haggard version is great too, specially the part where Merle starts singing at 3:20
Pancho and lefty, and cocaine blues, are some of my favourite songs.
I want to see some agitprop of Antifa beating up Nazis set to Johnny Cash's Man in Black

He was devout, yes, but in his prime, people did not think of him as a fundie nor as a homophobe.

Oh you just have a grudge against christianity. Also there is plenty of good gospel music.

Johnny Cash is good?
I thought God's Gonna Cut You Down was homophobic when I was a lib

It was a phrase in common usage in the 80s when AIDS was ravaging the gay community.
God’s Gonna Cut You Down is a 50s song before aids was a thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wEdCeJqddI

And as soon as AIDS became a thing the phrase was permanently marked as a sign of a depraved heart.

Check out Ballad of Its Hayes. Johnny Cash fucking slapped
Gotta respect a guy that does concerts in prisons singing about how those places serve for nothing but torturing people.
