On August 15, Justin Trudeau called a snap election with the hope of regaining a Liberal majority. His confidence in his ability to do so was based on the fact that most Canadians think the government has handled the pandemic well. However, polling has indicated that his edge in this is actually razor thin over the Conservative Party and the largest gains by far were to the NDP and PPC.
Holy shit this is so fucking dumb. Nobody gives a shit about this election, Justin, why the hell did you do this? You clearly just wanted to try and make use of that post-pandemic popularity bump that a number of governments seem to be getting, following actually handling the pandemic competently, but you didn't do a god damned thing, did you Justin? The only people that actually did anything were the NDP, and you thought? YOU THOUGHT? We saw through that shit, dumbass, and now you actually stand a chance to lose your plurality to the fucking Conservatives.

Question for the day here. One winner and sorry for getting back late, everyone :rat-salute: @biden.
Previous answer
butcher is 48, the baker is 42 and the candlestick maker is 60
Two diesel ships
Two diesel ships leave a pier simultaneously, the Stepan Razin downstream and the Timiryazev upstream, with the same motive force. As they leave, a life buoy falls off the Stepan Razin and floats downstream. An hour later both ships are ordered to reverse course. Will the Stepan Razin's crew be able to pick up the buoy before the ships meet?
Like usual have fun :soviet-heart: and remember to dm @Wmill the answer.
Seriously though, this election is so dumb. :kkkanada:
There's a spectre haunting the expired megathread, its 2 hags who keep using spider emojis.
Yeah I want to post all my plants and projects but they feel so identifiable. I guess it's only really a problem if someone knows you in real life but I also wouldn't want someone who knows me in real life to see my posting cringe lol.
Yesss, spider hag gang :sicko-fem: we can help clothe the commune. I think wool socks are one of the best things you can make, so warm and super durable.
It's so nice having a leftist fiber arts person to talk to :crush: I'm glad you're trying crochet! Are you using your handspun? When you feel more comfortable crocheting there are some pretty simple but nice looking patterns by this person: https://www.allaboutami.com/patterns/wearable-items/ not all their patterns are free but they have a decent amount
i did a couple small practice things, granny squares etc with my homespun. but this hooded scarf takes like 800 yards so i bought some (of course) sparkly stuff. really puts it into perspective what a labor of love it would be to spin enough yarn to knit an entire sweater, but maybe some day! our commune is worth it :meow-hug: everyone is going to have the warmest socks
omg these patterns are gorgeous, what a vibe. have you made anything of hers?
We are the
weirdosarachno-communists, mister :sicko-fem: 🕷️I read this book about spindle spinning and it mentioned how until a few hundred years ago, everything was handspun on spindles. Even the sails for giant ships! Which like obviously but I never really thought about how much work would have to go into everything.
On our commune everyone can wear natural fibers hand dyed by us :meow-hug:
She mostly does amigurumi which is where I think I found her. I only really make knitted garments but I think I made some of her toys years ago :comfy:
We can be the weirdos of the weirdos

You already fucking know, SPIDER GANG BITCH 🕷 :sicko-fem: :sicko-fem: 🕷
and imagine having to spin all your thread for sewing on spindles! do you remember the title of that book? lol not that i have time to read it but i would love to add it to the ever growing stack :very-smart:
omg have you done any hand dyeing?? i did some wool yarn a couple years ago. i used real cochineal, grinding up the bugs and all. was going for bright red but it came out a bit more raspberry, still extremely pretty and dimensional. i'd love to do some more but i'm trying to keep my craft obsessions (and supplies) growing at a reasonable pace :ohnoes:
this is making me think, maybe we could host a megathread in c/diy some time. do a bit of history about fiber arts, links for beginners, that kind of thing. SPIDER GANG TAKEOVER
It was called "Respect the spindle" it was pretty short from what I remember with great advice when I was just starting to spin.
I love the idea of being able to make a ton of things from scratch. Like imagine weaving thread you spun into cloth, dyeing it with plants you grew or foraged, then embroidering it with thread you also spun and died :galaxy-brain: I feel like I'm so slow at my hobbies that I dont want to take the time to do things like that but hopefully as I get better and faster I have more time.
I dyed some yarn with ground turmeric (the yarn still has some of the spice in it lol) and purple cabbage which just turned to an ugly brown lmao. I'm currently saving avocado peels to dye some handsoun with. Somehow the peels and pits make a pink dye. You're more dedicated than me grinding those bugs :stalin-stressed: I think the sound would gross me out.
I feel you on collecting stuff, I want to try all the hobbies but space and money say otherwise.
It would be great to do introductions to fibers arts! And recruit some more spider hags :sicko-fem: i guess the actual post could be intro to fiber arts and then either have spoilers that drop down to the sections or do the more specific info in the comments. We could do links to learn the skills, have a little info on the history, supplies, and recommendations for beginner projects :sicko-fem: 🕸🕷🕸
spicy yarn! i bet it looks great though. can't wait to hear about the avocado experiment, that sounds really cool. grinding the bugs was gross and a little stinky. but a hag's gotta hag, yknow? lol. if you can find a copy, there's a great old book (more of a booklet) called Dye Plants and Dyeing: A Handbook produced by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in the 60s or 70s. it's got recipes and mordants for any color you want to make out of plants, plus history, dye plants around the world, and so many tips.
a big YES OMG to recruiting more spider hags. i'm probably too busy to handle a megathread in the next couple days, but i can start gathering info and links. should we dm to coordinate?
Oh God I didn't even think about the smell 🤮 you've truly earned your title of hag. I'll look for that book! There's so much dyeing I want to do but so little undyed yarn.
Honestly I think it'd be really funny if we planned a new mega on the weeks old mega that we're still on for some reason. We really claimed this as our own although sometimes there's three likes on our comments so I guess we're being watched 👁
If you want to dm instead we can lol. I was thinking that fiber arts as a whole might be too broad of a topic if we want to go into detail BUT if we did a very general introduction to it, just like saying what it is with brief descriptions of the crafts themselves then we could set ourselves up for other, more in depth megas in the future. Obvs if you'd prefer doing it another way just let me know! I definitely think we could do a good spinning mega because we both spin and you have experience with a traditional wheel and I have (minimal) experience with an electric one and we both use spindles :sicko-fem: :sicko-fem:
I know it's larpy but I do like thinking about being on a commune and having to make everything from scratch. I know it'd be a pain in the ass in practice but the idea of making like real things that we'd use every day from basic materials is so fucking cool
yeah i've wondered about those mysterious extra upvotes! lol hope the feds are enjoying our deep wool discussions :fedposting:
i'm really glad you suggested doing a more focused mega, i was starting to think that there's no way to do the entire field of fiber arts justice in a single thread. spinning would be a great choice! there's also some great Industrial Revolution/early capitalism history we can throw in there about the evolution from home spinning to cottage industry spinning to mechanized factory spinning
i like thinking about that stuff too, although yeah, not really practical or ultimately even desirable -- i am too soft and lazy to truly live off the land :blob-no-thoughts: but it's still nice to bring little bits of that life into my modern existence and make things i use! like i've made some of my own tools and knives and stuff and not to use a Girl Boss word lol but it's really empowering

WE'RE PUTTING THE THREAD IN MEGATHREAD BITCHES :meow-knit:
Omg "We're putting the thread in megathread bitches" is the perfect title!
I wonder if one of us has a secret admirer and thats why we're getting the extra upvote 👁 its interesting that they know we're talking about them snd they still haven't said who they are 👁👁👁
I wasn't even thinking about how to tie it into a relevant theme! You're really :galaxy-brain: that works so well for an intro before the actual craft stuff. It would be a great way to set ourselves up for other fiber arts threads too!
Would you think it fits better in history or diy? I feel like it could go either way but I would like to encourage people to post in diy more. Obvs whatever you prefer is fine.
I agree with being soft lol, I think that's why the commune idea is so appealing. Like yeah you guys chop wood and ill set back feminism by like 200 years and spin some yarn by the fire lol
How did you make your own knives??? Like actually blacksmithing? Thats so fucking cool
