I agree with everything you said. I'm not attacking anybody's use of snus or tobacco. Nicotine by itself isn't that bad of a drug for younger adults, apart from the addiction itself, but later in life it can really exacerbate arterial and cardiovascular disease.
From a public health perspective, in a country with subsidized and universal health care, banning a well studied, known carcinogen makes perfect sense. Personally, I don't agree with that decision, and completely understand why they're appealing the ban.
yeah from a public health perspective I get it too. I get sorta annoyed with lop sided hyper targeted banning of substances. Like if the EU just said "sorry no more smoking or snus or anything", it'd be different. The EU banned oral tobacco with the main consideration being chewing tobacco which is some awful awful stuff, but left cigarettes because France would riot at levels never before seen. Sweden would probably drop out of the EU before seriously accepting a ban on snus.
