The problem with Reddit's administrative and mod communities is that:

    • They're petty hierarchical cliches operating outside any uniform standard or conduct code, who met out punishments capriciously and vindictively in a Mean Girls sort of way

    • There's no coherent rule set or appeals process by which you can avoid making faux paus or contest punishments. Perma-Ban seems to be the default setting for every violation. Mods are actively hostile towards their user base and effusive towards site-wide administrators. Everything is Judge Dredd style enforcement.

    • The system is fraught with loopholes such that bad actors can keep rolling up new accounts/subs and reentering the community under aliases, so any effort to curb bad actors is an endless game of wack-a-mole. The end result is a community constantly infected with nuisance users that slowly drive the mods/admins insane.

    • A profit-motivated site that's rewarded by advertiser interaction is primed to encourage lots of native advertisers, bots, and other bad-faith participants that admins have a financial incentive to tolerate - and potentially even encourage
