On this day in 1837, Africans and Native Americans who had formed Florida's Seminole Nation decisively defeated an invading U.S. force more than twice their size, led by slaveowner and future U.S. president Zachary Taylor.

Since the founding of the U.S., escaped African slaves had settled in modern-day Florida. At the same time, Seminoles suffering under Creek rule in Alabama and Georgia were fleeing south to seek independence. There, the two groups formed an alliance, sharing cultivation techniques and putting up armed resistance against colonization and slaver forces.

The U.S. repeatedly invaded territory controlled by this alliance, and, on Christmas Day in 1837, 380 to 480 Seminole fighters gathered on the northeast corner of Florida's Lake Okeechobee ready to halt the armies of Colonel Zachary Taylor, a Louisiana slaveholder and future U.S. president.

Seminole riflemen waited for the soldiers in trees, firing on them from above. The battle was a decisive defeat for U.S. forces, however Taylor falsely claimed a victory when returning to Fort Gardner.

Exercise people, is it fine to exercise if I'm still sore from last time (2 days ago)? Or am I gonna cripple myself trying to do push ups on my little cigarette arms

2 days is enough the soreness will subside after your first set it’s totally normal to be sore all the time when you are first starting out, and the soreness will not affect your workout

Your arms are like little cigarettes, I bet I could roll and smoke you. And yeah, you can work a different muscle group or sometimes I find getting bloodflow helps with soreness and stiffness

Judging from my research, you're not gaining much muscle by straining yourself. Muscles grow when they are resting. Excersise some other muscle groups while waiting for soreness to go away, like your legs or your back

One more thing, track your nutrition, at least calories and protein. Make sure you are getting enough protein it’s way more than you think. Good nutrition will help with recovery and performance

There's soreness that you can work through after a little warm up and be fine. There's also soreness that is your body telling you need to chill with it. You can always do a warmup/mobility routine first and see how you feel before getting into your work sets.

48 hours of rest should be plenty for pushups. It should be plenty for most exercises. If you're soreness is preventing you from exercising again 48 hours later you should probably ease up the intensity and start with something easier. IMO beginners should start way below max effort, and then progressively add more volume/difficulty.

Reduces chance of burnout/injury, your body has time to adapt, there's clear progression, and it helps establish consistency. You also practice the movement with less intensity, so it'll help your technique. Proper technique is vital in exercise, you'll have more power and reduce injury risks. If an exercise is too difficult for you to do with proper form, do something easier.

If max effort is 3 sets of five pushups, then scale that back. Do 3 sets of 10 knee pushups first. If that was easy enough next time do 3 sets of knee pushups, but add in 1 or 2 full pushups in each set. Just an example, there's plenty of pushup progressions you can find online that go into more detail.

Good luck! If you stick with it and gradually progress you'll be amazed where you can get in a few weeks compared to where you started!

Rotate muscle groups to avoid this. If you do a full body workout over the course of the week you’ll get more than enough rest for all those microtears to turn into gains.
