MS is attempting to implement a security feature that slows just about everything memory related down, allegedly slowing down gaming up to 28% :big-cool:

when has microshit ever made a polished product that doesn’tshit itself?

like, say what you want about apple but...no seriously whatever you want about apple they suck ass. my point is Microshit is literally comprised of people who eat crayons as a midnight craving. thetype of company thad has slam poetry sessions butthey’reliterally slamming their heads against concrete before going to work on the next losedow

Microsoft does have to support their OS on a far wider variety of hardware. Same with Android from Google. Apple has the advantage that they only have to write code that works on their exact special hardware and basically nothing else, which is also dumb because they don't let you even run a macOS VM to compile programs for macOS. Apple just expects everyone to bow to them. That being said, Microsoft is awful and lazy as hell. Each version of Windows makes slight improvements but adds another layer of GUI cruft and complexity by adding new features to replace old features which they don't actually replace, and everyone who works there definitely eats crayons as you said.

Microsoft does not even write the drivers for the hardware like Apple.

Well they do write the SATA/USB/PCI/NVMe drivers as far as I know, just not the ones for non-generic devices.

Microsoft has insanely bloated and incompetent management that abuses their developers so much they don't care anymore. Management will demand insane things and refuse to listen to any explanation as to why that is dumb and made redundant by something else. They blame their workers for their mistakes, and never have to face consequences for their actions.

Typical entitled management that hides their incompetence with hostility. They underpay as well, so everyone they have with any talent leaves asap. They have no product direction, just a finance guy in charge trying to press the button that makes more money, but he's also a talentless hack so he just tells them to add the stuff other companies that are making money do, without understanding why they are doing it.

in the near future, given default settings, software programmed for windows will run faster in linux+proton then in windows

This is, incredibly, already the case for several games. You even have some Windows users running dxvk for older non vulkan games.

sounds like a version of Windows to skip :shrug-outta-hecks:

and they push me a tiny bit towards ditching Windows altogether

How long ago was this? Laptops used to be a bad experience with linux but now all of mine run Ubuntu. Any modern Dell, Asus, or Hp laptop should work in my experience.

That's strange, I've never had an issue with Asus hardware. What distro were you running?

late reply, but linux really has come a long way in 4 years! and all the hardware issues for your laptop are probably solved since hardware drivers are integrated into linux as time goes on.

btw, i started using linux 6 months ago and it's working really well, i don't think i could've handled it 4 years ago since i'm not into coding and stuff & it seems like things were more difficult then

you could try various beginner distros in 'try linux'/live boot mode to make sure it works with your hardware too, before installing anything. i recommend pop os or kubuntu

It's on by default for prebuikt PCs, no custom ones. It's part of the Windows 11 for OEMs. Also you can just turn it off, it's mostly aimed at enterprise I guess
