I don't mean this as a criticism of the site as it is right now, but I don't think Hexbear in its current form is really a good fit for pretty much any reddit community. The tolerated discourse here is more limited than these kind of organically growing vaguely leftist subreddits, and people who join up tend to just react with annoyance at the different vibe here.
