I mean really, compare John Gast's American Progress to Boris Kustodiev's The Bolshevik.
There's no need to worry about the ethical concerns of stealing culture from :amerikkka: . The only morally fraught part is the need to be vigilantly anti-racist in the appropriation by emphasizing that it's a newer, more enlightened Manifest Destiny.
Is manifest destiny at its core too utopian and ideological to be a good option for a useful, inclusive communism though?
Nerd, "too utopian and ideological" is already the popular American imagination of what communism is, might as well lean in on the aesthetic
edit: because needless to say, America has its own long history of having popular politics being dominated by "utopian and ideological" ambitions.
It's a good bit. But I wonder if associating it in practice with utopian vision rather than historical materialism and dialectical progress just reinforces the popular beliefs rather than changes it
I feel like China will keep being a good example in the future, the argument from practicality might not be that much of a battle if people know who the winner is already by looking at the tags on their belongings.
What's amazing is that despite American companies choosing to outsource production to China and choose the lowest cost cheapest fabrication methods - it is somehow still the country of China that is blamed for shoddy manufacturing and materials (whether it's true or not).
