Coming from the country with possibly the most unfair election sytem in the world, that regularly entreats with absolute monarchies and genuine autocrats the world around, and holds conferences with Somoza's heirs as part of their electoral campaigns, this statement couldn't possibly be more hollow. Low hanging fruit, but if the Ortegas were "just as bad" as the Somozas, the US would be giving the Ortega government millions of dollars in funds and weapons to kill political opponents
I can't tell you who would win the badness contest, but Ortega is bad, and in the last 5 years is more like Somoza's badness than you would have expected a decade ago.

Well, there can be bad governments which aren't supported by the US, at least theoretically.
