Coming from the country with possibly the most unfair election sytem in the world, that regularly entreats with absolute monarchies and genuine autocrats the world around, and holds conferences with Somoza's heirs as part of their electoral campaigns, this statement couldn't possibly be more hollow. Low hanging fruit, but if the Ortegas were "just as bad" as the Somozas, the US would be giving the Ortega government millions of dollars in funds and weapons to kill political opponents

The United States stands in support of the inalienable right to democratic self-determination of the Nicaraguan people.

Well that would be a fucking first, wouldn't it

They genuinely don’t know what Reagan did. They willfully don’t look, and MSM gleefully obliged their desire to not look.

        knowing what Reagan did

Well part of the problem is most Americans have no idea what Reagan did.

The other part of the problem is, if most Americans did know, they wouldn't give a fuck anyway.

self-determination is when you interfere in foreign affairs, and the more you interfere, the more self-determination it is.

I'm genuinely worried that since the US' bullying didn't work on China, they're gonna come after Latin America next.

Eh, yeah I guess. Full invasions are not popular anymore, their thing is color revolutions, but maybe they go back to run guns to openly fascists militias and big assassinations.

No country is safe, but Caribbean countries are the most vulnerable. I guess I hope they prefer embargoes instead of bombs.

One of these days one of the tiny countries in the global south is going to push back in a way which cannot be ignored, and it’s going to be a bloodbath. Fucking again. And living in the armpit of Babylon makes me complicit in it.

Nothing to worry about coming after Latin America, we already are. Look at the plan they put out for Guatemala to stop immigration. They're using US law enforcement and courts to root out "corruption" (ie anyone the US doesn't like). They're alsol literally giving money to a Brazilian company to grow bananas, you couldn't put this shit in a movie or people would call it too on-the nose.

Bolivia/Chile are obviously going to be necessary USA colonies for rare Earth minerals, especially given the inroads China already made in Africa.

if the Ortegas were “just as bad” as the Somozas

I can't tell you who would win the badness contest, but Ortega is bad, and in the last 5 years is more like Somoza's badness than you would have expected a decade ago.

You commies do realize they're imprisoning leaders of different political beliefs? America is the most unfair? Since when have we imprisoned Bernie Sanders for being a tankie?
