After venturing back into the world of the working and / or socializing I can tell you with complete certainty that everything would be much better if we all got goop't.

Literally everyone I interact with feels like they don't have the bandwidth to properly explain anything. I don't know if this is a late capitalism thing where everyone is exhausted and on edge or if I'm just getting weirder as I get old.

Shoutouts to all my painfully awkward comrades trying to make it out there in the real world.

Since we both know it's impossible to fully understand and communicate with one another, be kind to yourself :)

Also another point to why the Rebuild ending sucked ass (I will not deface one of my most preferred sexual activities with association to such utter garbage)

    spoiler

In the original Evangelion ending, Shinji makes it such that people can choose whether to come out of instrumentality or not. Therefore, even if the world was destroyed completely, there is enormous potential for hope and the possibility of something better rising out of the ashes. This is cool because everyone can choose whether they want to come back or not.

In the rebuilds, Shinji basically gets god powers and reverses instrumentality completely BY LITERALLY CREATING THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY. He essentially screwed over every human being in the Evangelion universe by dragging them into a hellworld rife with wealth inequality and wage slavery heading towards climate apocalypse.

Wonderfully said. I hate how that is the fixed, more optimistic ending. The original is weird, ambiguous, could potentially go wrong all over again, but is fully embracing the beauty of that fact. Its like No Exit but if you removed the laughing fit at the end and had them all leave hell

I am too uncultured to get the reference but yeah there is a certain beauty in the ambiguity of the original evangelion's ending that is utterly lost in the reshills. Thank you for your agreement as to the fact that I am not the one who has gone insane.

I only know it due to philosophytube, least able to remember it after mentions in HS philosophy thanks to her vids. It was a :sartre-pipe: play; it coined the phrase "hell is other people" and is about the same Hegelian master/slave dichotomy that Evangelion was written about

Off topic a little, but what are some good anime youtubers? I think Mothers Basement is one of the lest awful, its hard to find anything good, if there are some leftist that would be a godsend. I think Noralities are pretty good, but they make more of a video essay on anime. I also like hazel.

lmao its like that Japanese review writer and I did an instrumentality because YES thats a big reason why the rebuilds are fucking dogshit!!! Anno is a literal mult-millionaire from all his Eva royalties now so ofc he would become a part of the neoliberal order. Do you have a link to the review you mention?

Its also to be noted how the rebuilds have over 10x the fanservice, with Mari just being retconned in as Shinji's cute cat-girl waifu, literally no other fucking purpose to her character, and the directors still have the audacity to portray the ending as something "realistic" and "anti-escapist". And then liberal cucks like mother's basement go online and make videos soyfacing over how "beautiful" the ending was and how much they came over Shinji running off into the sunset as a literal fucking Japanese salaryman but its all ok because "he has gf and job now guys so that means he's a good person now ecksdee". Its all just pure cope with people not wanting to admit that neoliberalism defiled Evangelion long ago and its never, ever, coming back.

When I learned about the ending I had my usual crisis with Evangelion and needed to read through a shitload of reviews and forum posts and literal Hegel in order to deal with it. EoE makes me lose my mind and need to watch hours of philosophy to find meaning in it any time I think about it, but I come away better for it. Rebuild just feels hollow. Like let's remove the struggle and message about self-actualizing and accepting/finding beauty in a flawed world, and instead make a "perfect" end for everyone that means little, and create a new girl who exists to be a "reward" for Shinji's imagined character-arc.

That happy ending is somehow less happy than a literal apocalypse, and the main couple strangling one and calling the other disgusting. That was legit life-affirming
