Imma be a buzzkill and gently rain on this parade by issuing my objections over people using incontinence to ridicule Biden.

[CW: SA, CSE & FGM ahead!]

Not that Biden doesn't deserve ridicule but incontinence cuts across some intersectional axes of sex, age (obviously), disability, and (perhaps surprisingly) survivors of female genital mutilation (particularly the more extensive forms of it) and of sexual assault and in particular childhood sexual exploitation.

I don't think lesser of people who deal with incontinence. I'm happy to camp out on this position by myself—I don't want to turn this into a struggle session—but I'd encourage others to reflect on what implications this punchline has for some of the most oppressed groups in society.

I'd want to clarify that I didn't post this cartoon because it was a good dunk on Biden (it's in the dunk tank, after all), but to make fun of a boomer chud making an anti-Biden cartoon that serves more as a way to make Xi look good. I honestly didn't even notice the piss on the ground, but of course a boomer chud cartoon is going to do a childish insult like that. I don't think making fun on incontinence is funny.

        It's all good.

Like I said, I don't want to turn this into a struggle session and I honestly didn't assume any malice whatsoever on your behalf in this post.

I'm just relatively privileged, especially with regards to the stuff I discussed above, and I'm using that position to do a bit of awareness raising so we can all improve our collective skills with critical media engagement and with being more supportive of oppressed groups.

I'd say that almost nobody is aware of all the myriad ways that something like ableism can fly under the radar. That's not a fair standard to demand of yourself or others to be able to do this. (Shit, in all honesty I'm still ableist myself - I experience a lot of internalised ableism and, although I made a lot of effort to replace the low-grade ableist language like "dumb" and "stupid" in my vocabulary, life threw a multi-year shitstorm at me and I really lapsed in this effort.)

You're good, comrade. I don't want you or anyone else to feel bad about this, I just saw this as a teachable moment and that original comment is my way of paying it forward to the people who helped me along my (ongoing) journey in being less ableist.

Absolutely. Thank you for the taking the time to eloquate this, I don't like seeing it either.

In a similar vein, the speed at which libs went "well looks like we can be objectifying ableists too now!" because of Trump's rancidly profane attitude was a contributing factor in my further radicalization. For a political group who so often claimed to fall back on rhetoric of "take the high ground" we've now gone well far past "Bush is a dumb-dumb 😏" (simplistic, but a legitimate concern for a leader) and just recently had members and cronies of the DNC alike popularizing the hashtag #TrumpSmells. I get push back that this is the type of messaging that works now because "swing voters listen to this, not the fancy fascist racist sexist tropes mmhmm" as if it's an excuse to normalize discriminating dogmatism.

I love dunking as much as the next leftist but it's a dehumanizing cheap shot to ever focus on things like that, and only aims to lessen the impact of true political opinion fallout under the guise of "well, this election is too important to not bring back bigotry." I'm so over this garbage. We live in a time where pig_shitting_on_balls.webp is next in line to be a mainstream campaign ad.

Not gonna go on a massive rant to you about the build-up to Trump's election and the kind of slapfights I was getting into with progressive sorts over them giving out free passes for people who were body shaming trump and especially (dick) size shaming. You already know what it would have looked like.

Imagine me telling progressives that they aren't actually trans allies because they will attack men over their dick size and that they aren't feminists because they will bodyshame people and that they aren't queer allies because they were valiantly defending the Putin/Trump edit of "My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love". I wasn't a popular person lol.

I can't imagine what it's like to be trans and to have people insisting that they're trans allies or wearing "you are safe with me" pins when they turn around, do shit like that, and then lecture and gaslight you over why it was actually the right thing to do. It must be incredibly isolating: "If these are my allies then I'm in danger."
