People in the US state of Georgia are still seething about the dopest march to the sea ever marched. Seriously, not even just ultra-chuds, mentions of General Sherman really hit nerves. Lol, stay mad you Peachy Pooters.

Listen to the radio war nerd series on the civil war for part of an answer why. Historians on the civil war range from pro confederate to both sidesing the conflict, where in reality it was just plain good vs evil.
LMAO not really. Props to Union soldiers who actually cared about slavery, but the US was not good. Lincoln and the Republicans were looking for their self interest, US industrialism could not survive at the time without cheap cotton from the South. For the 1st two years of the war, Licoln was willing to let the South keep slaves if they came back to the union. Even many abolitionists were still awful, the Republican party platform (which Lincoln implemented in the Midwest) was that Americans needed to settle more of the west to overturn slavery. Settling land which was inhabited by Indians.
