The fact minimum wage exists means that they would use slave labor if it was legal. And for many companies it is. Unrelated, but did you know that the 13th amendment allows for slavery for prisoners?

One of the funnest things I ever got to do when I worked for a small bussiness tyrant was walk out with the rest of the workers in the middle of a big open mic night. Fuck that guy, he hadn't paid any of us for a month.

There's a place I know of that was up front and honest about hiring people as slaves. They paid their staff nothing and still got a fresh string of recruits. Mostly students desparate for experience to put on their cv. Some having worked there for 2 years with no pay and paying out of pocket for the software they needed and travel.

This is what every employer wants.

Yeah they basically only hired interns for no pay. Which was possible in that field because uni students were desparate for any experience since there's no jobs

Sometimes they strung people along promising pay but never delivering. CEO got paid obs

Because they do not see employment as an arrangement between equals and therefore see no reason to look out for you in order for you to reciprocate

In my state they owe you pentalty pay if they do this and don't resolve it.

Gooe your state and labor board and back pay and see what comes up
