Chapo Spinoff Idea: Matt strikes oil when his grill falls over in his new LA backyard
As a kid, I knew I was on to something when I would dig holes in the back yard.
In other parts of the US, they're not even disguised, you'll just go through a poorer neighbourhood, and suddenly one yard just doesn't have a house, there's just an oil derrick instead. Sometimes they're just in the median of a stroad.
Yeah but the people with those houses don't have any money, so the people who plan things don't have to care, because capitalism
Yep. That's literally the reason. This is a phenomenon that largely only occurs in poor neighborhoods or in secret
you see them on large properties as well but they are of course never anywhere near the landowners home, and the landowner is making a profit off providing access whereas the poor people in adjacent properties are just making cancer off the vapor because america
I remember growing up going on road trips across california those oil pumps that look like giant drinking bird things were all along the highway. They're not exactly hidden
They were/are everywhere near Huntington Beach. There are a few that are still functioning on the hill that overlooks Bosque del Rio across the road from Whittier Narrows/Legg Lake.
The ones in the fake buildings are interesting but those are probably only in the city proper, like where it would be weird to have that hole in the street facade
In the post apocalyptic wasteland these wells will become the bastions of a hundred Immortan Joes
It would sure be teeeerrrrrible if someone found these and :AC-AnarKitty: 🍾 🔥
edit: in minecraft or whatever ;)ive seen pumpjacks in little fenced off areas in high school parking lots
Yeah, those are all over the SoCal/LA area...not even disguised. You used to see them all the time in '80s movies and TV shows. Not so much anymore.
