      Plus, there's no reason to assume that the entities within the simulation would actually have a conscious experience of it, akin to our conscious experience of our lives.

        Yep. Sims definitely don't. The best we have is what, GPT-3? I think it has talked in ways that make it questionable, but based on how it works, probably not.

        The "simulated universe" theory is built on top of a huge pile of assumptions. That's sort of the problem. It's the teleological argument, except we replace God with A Very Advanced Computer.
