      The answer is "felony murder" means you did a felony that led to someone dying. Since he did 4 felonies, like pointing his own gun, menacing with the car, etc. that creates 4 felonies and 4 felony murder charges.

      If you're wondering about this, yes this makes no sense and yes this is constantly abused in our legal system.

        Yeah my second question would've been if this is disproportionately used against black people, but i think i know the answer.

          "Felony murder" also applies when, for example, police responding to an alleged crime kill people while doing so. That is to say if, for example, someone is suspected of shoplifting and the cops are called, and those cops run a red light and T-bone a car, killing the occupants, the alleged shoplifter gets charged with murder for the people the police killed. Or if two people commit a robbery and the police open fire wildly, killing one of them along with several bystanders, the survivor will be charged with murder for all the deaths caused by bullets fired from guns belonging to the local police department.
