So now I have some mind numbing job thats easy and makes decent money. But I feel like I am not doing anything of value. I havent been reading a lot of theory yet, so what should i do? Im considering switching to teaching so I feel like I add something to the world.

So, feeling like you add something or easy job where you make decent money?

If the comfort of your position allows you to do political work than it's probably worth it as long as you aren't working at, like, Northrop Grunman or something blatantly evil.

As a mechanical engineering major it's disheartening to see how many of my colleagues who seem good would volunteer to work for Northrop Grumman

It's hard to get paid to do actually useful work because it isn't valuable to capital. Which I'm dealing with the FUN way becoming a conservationist. If you're strongly called to some useful pursuit, do that maybe.
