LCS is so good and I wish another game, outside of maybe Freedom Fighters, made even a half-assed attempt at what it did. It was never polished and the ideology was kind of wonky early 2000s edgelord liberalism, but building an insurgency out of the lumpenproletariat to take on reactionaries was such a great gameplay loop. If it received ongoing development it'd be to tycoon games what Dwarf Fortress is to colony games.

Isn't Freedom Fighters just some FPS about killing communists or something? Is there something I missed? Heard some people praise it but assumed that was just gamers sucking ass and not the game being good.

It's basically the plot of Red Dawn but in New York City. To fight the Soviets you recruit insurgents, raid different buildings, create infrastructure, and eventually do large-scale attacks. It was like real-time XCOM. Granted I played it as a child and have no idea how it aged, but at the time it was a great shooter with an interesting metagame.

That does sound interesting. I thought it was just some linear COD thing.

It's arcade-y, but I remember it being closer to a tactical shooter like Brothers in Arms than a set piece rail shooter like COD.

The game has been picked up by some volunteers and still is being actively developed. It's still a lot of fun to play.

When I used to work retail I installed this game on the cash register.

based to an almost mythical extent

It's supposed to be a lot of fun and full of pointed commentary. Like apparently as your society gets more and more liberal your liberals start to run in to problems bc their guns become illegal.

Yeah, different policies affect the gameplay in different ways. An extreme conservative police force is populated with death squad members with M16s whereas a liberal one has a large number of negotiators etc, it's a neat gameplay dynamic.

If your game ends up lasting several decades a lot of funny things start to change, like you can end up in court and the judges have laser-gavels
