It was presented as this sort of "Go meet people in real life! phone bad!" thing. Then I looked it up and realize it was run by ycombinator, the eugenicist bazingabrains that run the orange website and want everyone to spend their entire lives staring at a vrchat anime avatar.

For sure, if there's a critical mass of users in your area though you can always use a bogus profile and otherwise guard your privacy.
There's a big discord in Philly for event organization for instance.
It's not about privacy. The website as it is is pretty benign and seems cool. It's that I know these people are deranged chuds in a tech cult and will inevitably do some fucked up shit. Plus I don't want to ever financially support these fuckers.
