Sorry, we can't help you live, but we can help you die.
CW: suicide
"It looks like you're struggling. Have you considered killing yourself?"
So they just offer you assisted suicide instead of help?
Yeah basically. It can be much easier for someone to access MAID than it is to receive social assistance.
Yeah I was always for assisted suicide before MAID, which turned out to be a futurama joke IRL. I should really have seen that coming.
Working as a social service worker in canada is so fucking demoralizing because of fucking MAID. Knowing that anyone I'm trying to work with will genuinely consider it breaks my fucking heart.
Reminder that Canada is #1 globally in organ donations from assisted suicide
And america harvests organs from dead prisoners. Funny how they spent years claiming China does this stuff only to find out, oops, its was us all along.
Better assisted suicide than an attempt on your own. The majority of suicide attempts are failures, often with some unpleasant consequences.
The problem is they are pushing MAID onto the poor instead of treating them, or doing anything about poverty
Yeah i took a "Medical Ethics" class in high school where we talked about MAID. We watched a documentary and they had examples of people (i think in Oregon?) who would only get covered for end-of-life /palliative care by their insurance, instead of covering the more expensive treatment that offered a slim chance of survival. It's fucking disgusting. Im all for MAID, but not under capitalism.
Im all for MAID, but not under capitalism.
Agreed on that
I wonder how long before this is pushed as a way to reduce hospital emergency wait times.
"Can't have long waits if half the people chose to die instead!"
