Antonie Pannekoek, born on this day in 1873, was a Dutch astronomer, philosopher, Marxist theorist, and socialist revolutionary.

A respected Marxist theorist, Pannekoek was one of the founders of council communism and a main figure in the radical left in the Netherlands and Germany, active in the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Communist Workers' Party of the Netherlands and the Communist Workers' Party of Germany.

Pannekoek is perhaps best known for his writing on workers' councils. He regarded these as a new form of organization capable of overcoming the limitations of the old institutions of the labor movement, the trade unions and social democratic parties.

He was a sharp critic of anarchism, social democracy, and Leninism. During the early years of the Russian revolution, Pannekoek gave critical support to the Bolsheviks.

Unlike some other progressive thinkers of his time, Pannekoek was also highly critical of social darwinism, derisively calling it "bourgeois darwinism".

libs have been primed to go full death cult for some time, they're just displaying that willingness now. we're gonna see the same thing with climate change as the global consequences start to mount this decade.

Liberals have moved to soft covid denialism, much akin to their soft climate change denialism. These phenomena can only be acknowledged to exist such that they are seen as things we can only make symbolic gestures towards, nothing more than that. Additionally, we should be grateful for those gestures and we are hysterical for demanding more than mere symbols. After all, how can an individual stop covid or climate change? The individual has the right to declare their own comfort level in the face of disasters such as these, and in response, other individuals should try their best to respect that comfort level.

And you’ve got these dipshits who look at China and say “oh, that’s authoritarian, you would have to be insane to give up your freedom for security”. What are you fighting for? What freedoms are you protecting? The freedom to die? The freedom to choke to death on your own airways? The freedom to infect your children? The elderly? The immunocompromised? That’s the freedom you’re willing to die for to protect? Has everyone gone insane? I feel like I’m living in the Twilight Zone.

The freedom and right to consume. Literally the only right we got left. Americans will still be shopping at Target with the super tornados and state sized wildfires consume what's left of the earth.

I think the new talking point is that Omicron's death rate is basically identical to the flu's while past variants were far deadlier. So everyone's getting it, but nobody is really scared of it killing them.
