I'd never heard that term until like two weeks ago and now it's hexbear common parlance.

Yeah it basically dragged cosmic horror away from the stagnation of Lovecraft's legacy (no, tentacles and foreigners are not scary anymore) into contemporary postmodernism and absurdism.
