Marx just had to sneak in that bit about "the common ruin of the contending classes", didn't he? He should have considered what that would do to my anxiety.

Dialectical materialism is based on the fundamental proposition that society, though shaped and contingent on material conditions, is changeable through the agency of the people affected by them. Socialism is not guaranteed, but the conditions for it ripen on a regular basis due to the contradictions from capitalism. If we work together, join parties, and engage in true mass action, we can win a permanent victory.

The way that I semi-not doomer is by the idea that while yes fascism is very likely to ramp up in most major imperial nations in response to contradictions and rising socialist movement’s , it is such an unsustainable system and inherently self destructive that they will destroy themselves and will leave no other option than socialism

Yeah but what if we are the ancient high civilization which lays the foundation for a socialist utopia that is classless and uses technology only to free ourselves from the burden of necessary work - as far as possible - so that the realm of freedom comes?

However those are basically world building ideas and I think that there are chances to chagne the world today, though the catastrophes that can come of climate catastrophe and nuclear annihilation are real threats.

It's going to be barbarism :100-com: which is why I'm focusing on what happens after the smoldering ashes of the Imperial Empire crumble.

"You must realize that I am far from feeling beaten…it seems to me that… a man out to be deeply convinced that the source of his own moral force is in himself — his very energy and will, the iron coherence of ends and means — that he never falls into those vulgar, banal moods, pessimism and optimism. My own state of mind synthesises these two feelings and transcends them: my mind is pessimistic, but my will is optimistic. Whatever the situation, I imagine the worst that could happen in order to summon up all my reserves and will power to overcome every obstacle." -Antonio Gramsci
