Tl:Dr -- I gave a company a salary range 15k lower than I should've. They made me an offer, I countered and they accepted. I am, however, still short about 5-10k what I think is fair (I mean, from a capitalist standpoint) for the current market.
I am about to resign from my current employer and put in my two weeks. I have decided to go tell my new offer that my current company exceeded their agreement by an additional 10 %. And ask them to match that.
Someone in the linked thread gave good advice advising against this--howver, I've always been a gambler....and fuck corporations. So I'm gonna risk it.
The particular industry I'm in is on fire right now, and I'm almost certain that there is no other candidate. The new company has mentioned a few times that they're trying to bring someone in asap and I get the feeling the prior candidate fell through for whatever reason. The process to bring me on board has now been almost a month (a lot of money invested by them). This leaves me feeling as if they will not call my bluff -- though obviously there's the possibility Im wrong, they have other candidates, and they move on.
And if they do? Well I still have my current job.
Time to roll the dice, wish my luck
