Carl Sagan argues in one of his books that many "abductees" are victims of sexual assault who are coping through the use of alien mythos. This partially explains the emphasis on "collecting genetic material", impregnation, being paralyzed or held against ones will that permeate alien mythos. It also adds up to the fact that there are often multiple "abductees" in the same family. Also the fact that most abduction stories take place in a bedroom in the middle of the night or in a car.
There's a Greg Araki movie that uses that in the plot. It's called "Forbidden Skin. It's a tough watch.
I would not at all be surprised if there was truth to what Sagan is saying but I feel like he is touching at something much much bigger. Iirc alien abduction stories often also share characteristics with general recalling of religious experiences. Something about the American psyche jumps to aliens when that pineal gland is getting tickled, seems like.
