Deep down, I know that the US is evil and will not do anything to stop COVID. But I fucking hate when people talk so casually about it. I don’t give a fuck how “mild” it is. I don’t fucking want it. You should be pissed off and tired that the government is throwing you to the dogs - but no. It’s just a passive shrug. I wouldn’t care as much if I lived by myself, but I live with people who interact with idiots who don’t take precautions because of ego. Fucking hate this shit.

Living in NZ is a weird feeling right now. We have gotten rid of most of our national protection measures now. It feels like we are about to disband most of our border protections, the alternative (and much shittier) neolib party is growing in popularity and the cases are creeping upward.

All of my friends have pretty much accepted that they will get it at some point since there isn't much we can do to avoid it. It's like watching the popular will to avoid disaster evaporate in real time.

Yup. The true erosion began began when our multi-millionaire, banking CEO former Prime Minister wrote a column about the need to open up for the economy

He has a lot of good will in the public despite being a pony tail pulling freak

The unfortunate thing is that it's really not going to be a disaster for most people. Omicron really is milder, just not really "mild" in the common sense meaning of the word. Too many people will die but it will still be "just" a small fraction of the population, and likely it won't even overflow the hospital system (it didn't where I'm from and our healthcare system is mediocre at best) so it's really easy for politicians to sweep it under the rug.

It's socialism or barbarism as it always was, people keep choosing barbarism and it sucks.

Maybe. Our healthcare system is so bare bones that it struggles with the flu season already. It has reached near capacity several times recently even without the COVID outbreak.

It's a very neo-liberal country. Our reputation for being succdems is a little strange
