Have any of y'all built a Eurorack? I'm thinking about it but a single module can cost over $400 and I'd have to get like 8 to build a moderately flexible rack.

I've messed around with the vcv2 plugin and it's cool as hell. Is there any value to building a real rack other than a kind of boutique novelty if I can run a plugin that does much of the same thing?

    is a Bugatti worth the enormous price? they're expensive fart machines. there's certain sounds and "workflow" you can do only get in hardware, but really only worth it if you have a lot of disposable income to spend on toys. also this is 100% sour grapes from me since i can't afford a complete system.

    if you want a cheaper modular alternative to eurorack, check out AE Modular, but of course there's not the wide variety of modules that eurorack has.
