Like I get they have to appeal to westerners and are influenced by them, but surely some of them have enough political capital like MBS to wear whatever they want

Here’s a pic of MBS with Zuckerberg

Modi wears Indian suits. Well, indian inspired ones.

Edit - here. Modi's usual attire is a kurta and vest,[62] and his half-sleeve kurta is sometimes called the Modi Kurta. Modi also likes to don the orange (bhagwa) robes of a Hindu sanyasi for photo opportunities.

Yes, the mayo countries imposed suits as THE formal attire; if you don't come from said countries, it's a statement to not wear them, it's a bigger statement to don't even acknowledge them. But it's 2021, suits have been present in a shitton of non-mayo societies for centuries and might have been absorbed and integrated in a "healthy" way, so just let people wear what they like regardless of their socio-political ideas against or in favor of the mayos.

well everybody's used to the gulf outfit; not like mbs is the first leader from there to dress how he dresses.

I think there's a bit of stigma. If you deviate from the suit and tie, esp if you incorporate elements of national dress, you're seen as a tinpot dictator.

I do wish there was more freedom for how men dress, as this affects them to a greater degree, methinks. At least if a woman has to wear a suit, she can wear a blazer that's a color other than grey, black or navy blue (like theresa may here). Of course, one can say you should show courage and challenge social norms, but I guess that kinda hard on such a stage, when ur representing your country. Ridicule is a costly thing.
